No one was tarnished in the making of my comments happy-fish.gif

Managed sustainability - I'm down with that. though I'm yet to witness sustainable commercial fishing practices. I'm open to being corrected on this, but so far no one has been able to do it. I'd say its the failure of this managment that we can blame for all the 'in the old days there were so many more fish' remarks, which for sure, are true.
Your topic wording "tarnished ME" (pass tissues) happy-fish.gif

Yep, I agree (to me) Recs have worn "sustainability issues" of bag/minsize, etc "management" to a lopsided higher degree than the Pro's seem to have to-date.

I also do note the majority of "people" do not catch-their-"own" seafood, but are willing to pay for someone to do it for them ,I trust preferrably-aussie and expect "sustainable" as a given.

My topic wording tarnished you? Man, get a thicker skin. The topic wording was 'no wonder greenies hate fishoes'. Not 'no wonder greeneis hate gazza'.

I can't help it if you find my perspective self-incriminating. If you truly didn't give a toss, you wouldn't have taken offence.

Sure... most sheeple are inclined to buy fish for food instead of catching it. As experienced and successful fishoes, however, we don't have to do that. I eat lots and lots of fish (almost no other meat actually, which should tell you that i catch regularly - check my website for further confirmation of that) and never have to buy it. Not ever.

Give a man a fish, he eats for a day. Teach a man to fish, he eats for a lifetime. Luckily, someone taught me how to fish... without second-rate packaged frozen bait.

You're right Gaz - rec fishoes by and large are more responsible and do far less damage than commercial fishoes. Especially those that don't need to resort to bait that dictated a whole bunch of fish being needlessly killed, or their habitats wiped out. I guess it all just depends on who teaches one to fish?

Glad I wasn't taught by our 'eco-conscious pillie-pusher' though. telling people to chuck their lures and to tie on a pillie... oh man. Eco what? I can't think of a more eco-unfriendly attitude. I'd take rec fishoes who keep undersized fish and exceed bag limits before I take people who have to resort to purchased commercially fished bait, any day. The former does far less damage in the long run. Think about it.

I'm expecting to cop flack for my last comment, but I do believe its true. Sure - we've all seen idiots bag under-sized fish. We see that all the time - on boats, beaches, piers, rocks, you name it. Its in our face... and it makes us all angry.

But I live in Nth NSW where prawn trawlers do a lot of work and a few times I have followed them and witnessed pure unadulterated disregard to sea life. Once I paddled behind one for 20 minutes, netting up all the dead small fish they threw overboard. if you've never seen what happens, you wouldn't believe it. In that 20 minutes I counted over 60 dead fish (just the ones in my line of travel), and the species would make your heart bleed. Just disgraceful.

When you eat a prawn, much more than just that prawn died for your meal. Same goes for when you slide one onto a hook.

As I approached Juno pt on the Hawkesbury last week I noticed half a dozen foam slabs floating away from one of the anchored boats. These guys were breaking up a foam grocers box and tying bits to their line then using them to drift their baits away from their boat . When they got to the desired distance they whipped the rod and the foam broke away and the bait fell to the bottom (they were jew fishing) . The bits floated off up the river and they made no effort to retrieve them . Innovative but unacceptable

Seems almost too intelligent for Fishnet (the way it's been lately anyway!)

Heres my query I occasionally litter....we alll do, who has not had a hat fly overboard, a bag fly out the back of the boat, you know the drill, but conciously you do your best to take everything home.......I take my ciggy butts home if its biodegradable well thats cool but why the **** do i have to pick up shit left behind by people who dont give a **** at all and wouldnt understand the words eco terrorist...........did anybodys mum ever get a message across about picking up after yourself by doing it herself and staying quiet? I find it really hard to swallow that i can clean up other peoples crap and they are still going to do it regardless

If it gives you the irrates, don't. But I reckon you're missing the point... or at least, not grasping why someone like myself will clean up that stuff. Just forget how it got there for one moment and think about the consequences if you don't pick it up.

Its our playground man. Litter destroys it. If you've got it in you to turn a blind eye for it, that's your prerogative. No one insists you must clean up after others. But if you take a moment to consider that that plastic bag floating by your anchored boat will probably end up suffocating a dolphin (for example), you'll then stop thinking 'why should I do this' and instead think 'I better do this'.

Spot on Josh, like after the Australia day fireworks at Christies Beach. I could not believe the amount of empty containers and general rubbish left behind on the sand. Not only myself but my whole family in unison could not leave OUR playground in that state. We were compelled to try and pick up as much as we could with what we had.
